Dangerous Waters is not for the armchair sim fan - we're talking serious naval simulation here. The developer, Sonalysts Combat Simulations, does acoustic research and educational and training software in addition to entertainment titles, and that serious design bent is on display mightily in Dangerous Waters. This is not anywhere near a pick-up-and-play game - you will need to pay serious attention to the game's (nearly 600-page) printed manual in order to get anything out of the gameplay. But those who do choose to commit brainpower to the game are in for a deep and compelling experience. As a naval command sim, Dangerous Waters provides the opportunity to man an amazing array of stations, such as weapons, navigation and sonar control on submarines and ships, and you can even pilot aircraft such as helicopters. Also, if you have a microphone you can take advantage of the game's voice command system. The visuals aren't particularly impressive but they still do a good job of conveying the necessary information for decision-making. Fans of naval simulations will be hard-pressed to find a game with such depth. |
