The original Blitzkrieg was hailed for its historical accuracy both in visual design and in its realistic depiction of combat - elements such as a finite supply of ammunition, weapon damage modeling and even tanks' directional armor added to the verisimilitude. Blitzkrieg II offers all this and more, this time with a highly detailed, full 3D engine that allows you to rotate the game world for a better angle on the action. There are over 200 different types of units, from infantry all the way up to aircraft, all accurately modeled. Not only does the game look great, it's a blast to play. You can plow straight into combat with infantry and heavy armor, or, if you're into details you can go for the tactical and plan troop movements to your heart's content. There are three sides to play - the Allies, the Germans and the Russians - and multiple missions take you to places such as Manchuria, Okinawa and the Pacific front. The graphics are terrific - explosions send up dust clouds, debris and pieces of armor. The sound is appropriately thunderous and the music is great. It's a polished piece of design that should appeal to all RTS fans. |
