| This patch reactivates the "Blink" spell which is omitted from Ultima V: Lazarus v1.2 due to extreme bugginess. Developer notes: ---------------------- 1. WHAT IS THIS PATCH? ---------------------- When Lazarus was originally released in December 2005, it contained a 3rd-circle spell called "Blink" which caused both joy and pain to a great many of our players. The cool thing Blink is that it lets the player magically teleport (small distances only) all around the map--very handy for exploration. Unfortunately, Blink caused a number of unpleasant technical side effects for various players, ranging from minor graphical glitches to broken quests, to getting stuck in dungeons, to strange "blindness" bugs and outright crashes. We did everything we could to completely debug it, but some of the problems proved to be entirely impossible to solve without having access to the DS source code, and of course we don't have that. Thus, in the end, due to an inability to fix all the problems, we had to remove it from the game. This patch, however, will re-activate the spell Blink in Lazarus v1.20, for those of you who love the spell so much that you're willing to take your chances with bugginess. ------------------------- 2. WHO IS THIS PATCH FOR? ------------------------- If you're wanting to put Blink back into Lazarus v1.20, and are willing to deal with the bugs that may ensue, this patch is for you! :) --------------------- 3. IS THIS DANGEROUS? --------------------- In a word: Yes. This patch may not hurt anything. There's a decent chance that if you use this patch, you'll play through the game with access to a cool, fun spell, and nothing will go wrong... ...but there's about a 20% chance that something will go very, very wrong with your game as a result of using Blink. Because of this, we are offering NO SUPPORT WHATSOEVER for any player using this patch. If you encounter technical problems of any kind with this patch installed, PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL US, and DO NOT POST ON OUR TECH SUPPORT FORUMS. If it was possible to solve these problems, we would have kept the spell in the normal game, but we can't, so it's available now only in this optional patch. There's a good reason for that. We've made this patch just for those of you who truly love Blink, so please don't give us a hard time over it. ;-D ----------------------------- 4. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: ----------------------------- Simply extract the "blink_activator.dsres" file from this zip into your C:Lazarusesources directory (or wherever you installed Lazarus to) and it'll take care of the rest! :) Note that this will only work on NEW savegames, though, so if you want to experience the magical power of Blink, you'll need to start a brand new game after installing this patch. ---------------- 5. UNINSTALLING: ---------------- To remove the Blink Activator patch, simply delete the "blink_activator.dsres" file located in your C:Lazarusesources directory (or wherever you installed Lazarus to) and it'll be gone. Your existing savegames will already have Blink enabled, though, so you'll need to start a new game before you'll see that it's completely gone. |
