Plenty of titles already crowd the first person shooter genre, but few have ever come as close to perfection as Call of Duty in its 4th installment: Modern Warfare. While the game is a brilliantly engaging first-person shooter, its main strong point is that it's a gruesomely convincing, adrenaline-crammed, modern-day combat simulator. Call of Duty 4 puts an assault rifle in your hands and combat boots on your feet to provide a refreshing taste of authenticity for first-person shooter fans ready to break from the fantasy lands of games like Doom 3 and Metroid Prime Hunters. Everything from the grit and smoke of the environments to the bloody plunge of your dagger into the chests of your enemies is extremely realistic and delivers a gaming experience that makes Halo look like a Saturday morning cartoon. The depth and attention to detail, especially as seen in the game's weaponry, will no doubt attract war buffs and pump up the replay value. Multiple difficulty levels also provide an excellent avenue for both the skill polishing of a FPS veteran and a challenging-but-not-frustrating starting place for novices of the genre. If you've ever daydreamed of being a valiant action/war hero, or ever enjoyed a first person shooter, for that matter, you owe it to yourself to check out Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. |
